KENNEWICK, Wash. — The Special Investigation Unit is investigating a shooting involving a Washington State Patrol trooper. SIU detectives responded to a request by WSP, District 3 Captain Shane Nelson to investigate the incident per the Washington Administrative Code 139-12-030. On May 21, just before 6 a.m., a WSP trooper approached a disabled motorist stopped on the westbound shoulder of Interstate 82 near milepost 109, east of the E. Badger Road exit in Kennewick. The trooper notified WSP Communications that the individual appeared to be in distress and requested aid.
